After six years of vacancy, the employment agency AGO Jobs & HR from Kortrijk will soon move into the Wetteren station building. “A fantastic building,” it sounds. “People leave for work and we provide work. The perfect match.”
The station building in Wetteren has been empty for six years. Last year, the railway company NMBS launched an appeal. Anyone who had a possible interpretation in mind was allowed to make a proposal.
According to the NMBS, there were not many candidates. “That wasn’t too bad,” says spokesperson Dimitri Temmerman. “Not very many proposals were made.”
Temporary employment agency AGO Jobs & HR will be allowed to use the station building for the next eight years. Not because NMBS thought it was the best idea, but because AGO had submitted the highest bid. It will open its new office in the station building in the second half of this month, if the works go according to plan. The Wetter station is the third oldest in Belgium.
“Fantastic building”
“It’s a win-win situation,” says Dimitri Temmerman. “The building is maintained and it brings extra life to the station building, the neighborhood and the municipality. Ultimately, we don’t need the entire building. Only counters, a waiting room and toilets.”
“It’s a fantastic building,” says Tom Martin of AGO. “A lot of people are leaving for work, and we are providing work. The perfect match. Wetteren was still a blind spot for us. We had to operate from Ghent, Aalst or Dendermonde, and that was too far.”
The agreement therefore runs for eight years. After that, everyone can nominate themselves again. AGO has 130 offices in our country.
