Be careful when purchasing an electric scooter: “It is important that people know this very well, or they will be fined”

For example, MediaMarkt sells an electric scooter that can reach a speed of no less than 70 km/h per hour. But it can only be used on private property or on a circuit. After all, an electric scooter may travel at a maximum speed of 25 km/h in traffic.

The MediaMarkt website stated that the scooter in question is “ideal for commuting”. MediaMarkt acknowledges the error in a written response VTM . “For one device, the product specifications on the website incorrectly indicated that the vehicle may be used on public roads. This error will be corrected as soon as possible.”

Fine or confiscation

“It is true that not every store correctly indicates that you are not allowed to use that scooter on public roads,” Stef Willems of Vias Institute told the commercial channel. “This is not only the case in physical stores, but also often the case online.”

“So it is really important that people know very well that you are not allowed to go on public roads with such a scooter. Because if you are stopped by the police and they determine that you are going much faster than 25 km/h , then you can get a fine or they can confiscate your scooter.”
