Former politician Jan Pronk is currently working on two books about Africa. The 84-year-old PvdA celebrity said this on Thursday in the radio program Never Sleep Again. “There is now a manuscript at the publisher about East Africa,” he reported. “And then there will be a sequel about Sudan specifically, which is half finished.”

Pronk explains in an explanation to the ANP that both are books in which he gives his views on politics and economics in the areas, combined with personal stories about experiences in national and international politics: “The first book, which is ready, is about all conflicts in East Africa between 1970 and the turn of the century. I was heavily involved in situations in Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea and Kenya.” During this period, Pronk was a minister in four cabinets, including those of Development Cooperation and Defense.

The second book, which he is now writing, is about “my involvement as UN envoy to Sudan between 2003 and 2007”. This work will also combine scientific analyzes with personal memories. Pronk previously also wrote books about Suriname and Rwanda. It is not yet clear when the new works will be available in stores.

Pronk and journalist Ellen Mangnus recently published the book Kijk niet weg, in which Pronk, based on his life and political career, outlines his ideas about the major problems the world is currently struggling with.
