Book a tour of Batenburg Ruins

--

On Sunday, May 5, the ruins of the impressive Batenburg castle can be visited with or without a guide. Visitors can then wander around the special ruin on their own, or take an extra-long tour including a visit to the town of Batenburg.

Stone

A stone that once sat above the gate of the castle states that Batenburg Castle was built in the year 327 on the remains of a Roman temple. Evidence of this has never been found. The history of Batenburg Castle dates back to the middle of the 12th century. This makes it one of the oldest castles in Gelderland. Now only a ruin remains. The guide takes visitors back to earlier times on the remains of this imposing castle.

Visitors can tour the ruins on their own between 12 noon and 3 p.m. and a guide will be on hand to answer questions. In addition, tickets are available for a guided tour at 1 p.m.

For those who want an extra long tour, there is the XL Batenburg tour at 3 p.m. This tour is not only on the ruins, but takes you through the old small town of Batenburg located on the Maas. Reservations are necessary.
