Tongeren

They were given a truly original assignment, the students of the third grade at GBS De Zevensprong in Piringen. Discuss a self-chosen book by empathizing with one of the main characters. The students had to dress up and tell the story in ‘I’ form, as if they had experienced it themselves.

All students came up with beautiful presentations. For example, Joachim, fond of knightly stories, castles, dragons. He chose the book about King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. He found the chapter about the sword in the stone particularly intriguing.

Together with his big sister, he had made a rock with his own hands containing the famous sword. With a borrowed replica of a real knight’s helmet and gloves, Joachim gave his story as King Arthur. The victory of the Red Dragon, the stone, Merlin, Knight Lancelot and so many more adventures of the knights of the Round Table, in short, all those experiences were discussed.

It was quite an undertaking, because such a helmet was really heavy and he had to wait a few minutes for his turn. His classmates followed his speech with curious attention. Of course, they were also allowed to ask questions afterwards. Throughout the week, classmates take turns ‘imagining’ their read book. Or how to turn a stiff book review into a fascinating, interactive experience.
