VEGHEL | A Children’s Stray Book Station has been set up at Roekdonk 3 in Veghel. Children from the area can go here for a stray book. Kinderzwerfboek encourages reading and tries to set up as many KinderzwerfboekStations as possible. “So that all children can read,” says Station Manager Sabine van Ginneke.

Van Ginneke started the Children’s Stray Book Station through her own children. “Our eldest child does not like reading and therefore has more difficulty. We kept offering books hoping for more success and interest. We think reading is very important. I was struggling with this a bit and came across the Kinderzwerfboek.nl website. The reading level of children these days is below average and books are expensive. Now parents and children from the neighborhood can walk by and take a book with them to read quietly at home or somewhere else. The threshold is a bit lower again.”

A Children’s Stray Book Station has been set up at Roekdonk 3 in Veghel.

Parents and children can leave the books somewhere, pass them on or return them to the KinderzwerfboekStation so that other children can also read the book. Van Ginneke continues: “The Children’s Stray Book Station is a great success. There are books for all ages and genres. However, we are very dependent on books brought in that can go out again.”

Million stray books
Children’s stray books are books with a stray sticker that wander from child to child. Stray books are passed on, left at schools, in waiting rooms, shops, trains or other Children’s Stray Book Stations. No matter how a book wanders, it should never be left read or unread on a shelf. In recent years, a million stray books have been sent on an exciting journey.
