Local CD&V members who reach an agreement with Vlaams Belang after the municipal elections in October are no longer welcome in the party. This is what CD&V chairman Sammy Mahdi said in an interview with ‘De Standaard’. “And the same applies to the PVDA,” said Mahdi.
CD&V will not allow Vlaams Belang to participate in power at any level – including at local level. According to Mahdi, you cannot be “a Christian democrat and believe that every person counts and at the same time make sweet cakes with a party that only wants to divide society.”
“That party is dangerous in all its ideology and it is my job, and that of all our leaders, to make it clear to all people that we must not open Pandora’s box. We don’t know where that ends,” the party chairman said.
Local CD&V members who do join forces with Vlaams Belang can hand in their membership card, according to the election interview. “And the same applies to the PVDA,” Mahdi emphasizes. “Their communism is also an insidious poison. The PVDA continues to refuse to recognize the Chinese genocide of the Uyghurs and continues to bend over backwards to speak out about how the Russians are dealing with Ukraine.”
