A man died gruesomely in the city of Arnhem (Netherlands) on Tuesday morning. The victim was sleeping in a paper container and, while emptying it, ended up in the crusher at the back of the garbage truck, where the waste is compressed.
The man died from his injuries, police reported. The authorities assume it was a fatal accident. The victim was possibly sleeping in a paper container that was emptied on Het Maisveld street in Arnhem.
At least that is what the waste collection company PreZero reports. According to a statement on the website, the victim was indeed sleeping in a wheelie bin and ended up in the squatter truck when it was being emptied.
Emergency button pressed
“The garbage collectors heard the sound of the person in the vehicle, after which one of them pressed the emergency button. The victim became trapped in the garbage truck.”
“The colleagues in the car immediately called the emergency services. Police, fire brigade and ambulance were quickly on site. They managed to free the person from the car. The victim was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries. Unfortunately, we have now learned that the victim has died from his injuries.” The garbage truck crew is receiving victim assistance, PreZero said.
