The biggest disaster Rio Grande do Sul has ever experienced

At least 75 dead, more than 100 missing and about 115,000 residents who have had to flee their homes. The sad figures seem to confirm what Governor Eduardo Leite said last week: the severe flooding in Rio Grande do Sul is the worst disaster the state has ever experienced. This is the fourth time in a year that the state has had to deal with severe flooding, a result of the El Niño air current that is currently prevailing. Yet the current floods are exceptionally heavy. On Sunday, the Guaiba River reached its highest level ever, half a meter higher than the previous record set in 1941.
