Material from the Colombian army has ended up on the international black market for years. This involves more than a million bullets and thousands of explosives, including several dozen rockets. President Gustavo Petro admits this. He blames corrupt soldiers.

A recent inventory uncovered the scam. Two military bases are missing 1.3 million 5.56 mm bullets, as well as hundreds of thousands of other bullets. Also missing are two Spike missiles and 37 Nimrod missiles, both from Israel. In addition, traces of thousands of grenades can also be found.

President Petro blames the disappearance on corruption. “The only way to explain this is that for a long time there have been networks of military and civilians selling weapons from the Colombian state.” According to him, the ammunition ended up with armed groups who then sold them internationally, sometimes via Haiti.

According to Defense Minister Ivan Velasquez, the investigation is still ongoing, but some soldiers have already been relieved of their duties.
