Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has again lashed out at Washington, which she says is “hypocritical”. The United States does not support the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) investigation into Israel, but it does support the arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The International Criminal Court in The Hague is investigating the attack that the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas carried out against Israel on October 7, as well as Israel’s retaliatory actions in the Gaza Strip. The Court can convict individuals of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized on Monday that Washington does not support the ICC investigation. “We don’t believe the court has the legal authority to do that,” she said. Zakharova finds that statement “hypocritical,” she says on Telegram. Washington does support the arrest warrant that the ICC issued against Putin in March 2023.

LOOK. Zakharova previously called the arrest warrant against Putin “legally insignificant”

“Washington fully supported, perhaps even encouraged, the issuance of the arrest warrants against the Russian leadership,” Zakharova said. According to the spokeswoman, the US does not recognize Russia’s legitimacy and is thus taking an “absurd position”.

US President Joe Biden has said several times that the arrest warrant against Putin is “justified”. The ICC accuses the Russian president of war crimes in Ukraine, including the illegal deportation of children.
