Away with the fireworks and the loudspeakers with children’s songs: the German police are adjusting their tactics to find 6-year-old Arian. The boy with autism has been missing since Monday evening.

Big speakers blasting nursery rhymes. Batman-like spotlights to send beams of light into the sky, hundreds of feet high. Balloons in all shapes and colors, bags of candy and bottles of lemonade, hung on poles. And also fireworks, into the bargain. The search for Arian, who has disappeared since Monday, was one with bells and whistles. The 6-year-old boy who disappeared from his parental home in Ohfeldring near Hamburg on Monday evening around 7:15 p.m. has autism. He would not speak himself and would not respond when spoken to. The children’s songs, balloons, candy and fireworks came at the request of Arian’s parents. “The boy could have reacted positively to one of those things,” a police spokesperson said.

Light and balloons were supposed to attract Arian, but that failed. The fireworks and children's songs have already stopped.

On Friday evening it was decided to change the rifle. Bells and whistles make way for a ‘silent strategy’. This is done in consultation with an expert in autism. The investigators reset the counter to zero and search the scoured zones again. The army is deploying 250 soldiers to search in small groups on Saturday night. They use night vision goggles and thermal cameras and do so in ‘stealth mode’, where they try to make as little noise as possible. The army had also already deployed a Tornado aircraft that could detect heat. Drones and a helicopter were also deployed.

The clock is ticking for the investigators: the temperatures flirt with freezing at night and the missing boy only wears a long sweater, sweatpants and socks. Arian’s parents have asked residents to check possible hiding places in the garden. The fire brigade checked sheds, garages and manhole covers en masse. The garbage collection was canceled on Friday morning because investigators could not rule out that Arian had crawled into a waste container.
