A Boeing cargo plane made an emergency landing at Istanbul airport in Turkey on Wednesday.

A Boeing cargo plane had to make an emergency landing at Istanbul airport on Wednesday. The aircraft made a belly landing because the front wheels had not been deployed due to a technical defect. The pilots were unharmed.

The Boeing 767 of the American parcel delivery company Fedex came from Paris. The problem had already been identified before landing and the pilots had requested the belly landing from air traffic controllers. The emergency services were ready at the runway.

Hydraulic problem

Images on social media show sparks as the plane’s fuselage scrapes the runway. Eventually the aircraft comes to a stop on the runway.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Transport, the landing gear did not deploy due to a hydraulic problem.

Boeing has regularly been in the news lately with technical defects. The company is now under investigation by US authorities over concerns about quality problems in factories. (belga)
