On the Spanish island of Mallorca, a 21-year-old woman ended up in intensive care after drinking coffee from a coffee machine at Palma airport. The woman’s coffee cup turned out to contain small insects, some of which she accidentally swallowed, causing a strong allergic reaction.

The incident occurred around half past ten on Monday morning. The young woman, who works for an airline, went for a coffee with colleagues at a publicly accessible vending machine at Son Sant Joan airport. According to witnesses, the woman noticed that the coffee tasted strange after her first sip, the local newspaper wrote Ultima Hora. When she stirred the coffee with her spoon, she noticed several insects floating in her coffee.

Annoying for most, but a disaster for the woman, as it turned out, because her body soon reacted strongly allergic to the contaminated coffee. Her face began to swell and she had difficulty breathing. Airport emergency services had to administer adrenaline and other medication to the young woman to stabilize her condition. She ended up in intensive care, which she was only allowed to leave on Wednesday morning.

The family of the unfortunate victim filed a complaint with the police about a “possible crime against public health”. They suspect that the coffee machine, which is no longer in use, has been poorly maintained. According to the police and the airport, the machine is being investigated. The supplier of the coffee (machine) must also check all its machines at the airport.
