The Norwegian parliament, the ‘Storting’, was closed on Wednesday after several threatening messages were sent to the institution. The Norwegian police announced this.

Parliament received a threatening email for the first time on Tuesday evening, but it was not considered credible. However, several more threats were received on Wednesday morning, after which the police decided to close the building in the center of Oslo.

A security cordon has been set up around parliament and public access has been closed, but work in the building continued as usual. TV footage shows heavily armed officers wearing helmets patrolling the building with dogs.

“The threat itself is meaningless, but it is formulated in such a way that we cannot take the risk of treating it lightly. There is nothing dramatic at this stage,” said police chief Sven Christian Lie, who could not say whether there was a link between the threats.

According to Norwegian media, these were bomb threats, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
