Connoisseurs of Efteling immediately notice it when they see Doornroosje again after months of renovation. She has a little longer hair, a curtain has been hung, but most striking: she has had a breast enlargement. “We receive many surprised reactions,” says Efteling.

Although photos of the ‘improved’ Sleeping Beauty are circulating on April 1, the Efteling spokesperson assures that the adjustments are no joke. “No, it is indeed true that the breasts have become slightly larger. We just didn’t expect it to be so noticeable.”

Still striking

Sleeping Beauty Castle was closed in the Fairytale Forest for months for maintenance. The renovation was intended to ensure that the sleeping resident would look more like the original drawing by Anton Pieck – one of the first designers and founders of Efteling. “With this new cup size, it should look more like the sketch he once made. She also got a little longer hair and we moved a curtain.”

That one striking change in particular caused many reactions on social media. “People are quite surprised. We didn’t mean for it to stand out like that. But when I put the photos side by side, I do indeed see a big difference,” said the spokesperson.

The change is permanent. “We understand the confusion and it is also quite comical, although it was not intended that way. But it’s really not an April Fool’s joke.”

Famous attraction

The fairy tale Sleeping Beauty has been an important attraction since the Efteling was founded. During the renovation, Efteling made the fairytale more sustainable by replacing the old lighting with LED lighting. In addition, the stones of the path to the castle have been replaced.
