The Foreign Office asks compatriots in France to be “very vigilant” and to follow the guidelines of local authorities.

After the attack on a concert hall in Moscow that killed 137 people, the French government increased the threat level. The attack in Russia was claimed by the terrorist organization ISKP. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, that group was already trying to commit attacks in France.

According to the French government, the increased risks mainly apply in larger cities. By switching to the highest threat level, the French government can deploy more security measures to protect citizens. The Olympic Games will take place in Paris this summer.

The Netherlands has also adjusted the travel advice for France from green to yellow. This means that travel to France is possible, but travelers throughout the country must be extra alert.

At the beginning of December, the Netherlands increased the travel advice for the French capital Paris from green to yellow due to possible violent attacks after a fatal stabbing incident near the Eiffel Tower. The man who was arrested for this is said to have sworn allegiance to the Islamic State (IS). In February, that travel advice was changed again to green.
