Polish jets take to the air to support Russian attacks on western Ukraine

Polish and allied planes took to the skies early Sunday morning to secure Polish airspace, in response to a series of Russian air and missile strikes on western Ukraine and near the Polish border. The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced this on Sunday.

“Polish and allied aircraft have been activated, which may result in increased noise levels, especially in the southeastern part of the country,” the Command said on X.

The southeastern part of Poland borders Ukraine.

Russian airstrike on Kiev and Lviv region

Russia carried out an airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Sunday morning. The anti-aircraft defense is deployed to repel the attack. Have that Ukrainian officials said.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klychko writes on Telegram: “Explosions in the capital. Air defense is working. Do not leave the bomb shelters.”

There is no information yet about any casualties or material damage. The region’s military leadership had previously announced that its air defense systems were repelling an attack.

Witnesses from the Reuters news agency heard several explosions and saw some objects being knocked down.

The regional governor of Lviv, in the west of the country, said early on Sunday morning that an area south of the city of Lviv was also under attack.

Governor Sevastopol reports 1 dead and 4 injured, 10 rockets shot down

The governor of Sevastopol reports that 1 person has been killed and 4 injured in Saturday evening’s rocket attack on the occupied port city. According to him, Russia would have succeeded downed ten Ukrainian missiles.

A 65-year-old resident was killed by a rocket fragment. The injured also appear to have been hit mainly by rocket shrapnel. This includes an 18-year-old boy and two men aged 35 and 33. A woman (67) broke her leg.
