TVThere has once again been a commotion surrounding the Dutch program ‘Rich, dirt poor’. On TikTok, a Dutch influencer says that she was once asked to participate in the show, even though she did not fit into one of the categories. However, according to the Dutch juice channel @juicechannel__, it is not the first time that something like this has happened. “Everything about this program is fake.”

It is the Dutch Ipek Steenbeek who shared the story on her TikTok. “I once received a private message from someone at SBS6 asking if I wanted to participate in a program,” the influencer says on her social media. However, when she was told that it was ‘Immensely rich, dirt poor’, she almost fell out of the blue. “At first I thought: ‘and which category do I belong in?’ Ultimately, the intention was for Ipek to participate in the series as a wealthy family. “I then described my house,” she continues. “I don’t have a villa, I don’t have a swimming pool, …” Although that didn’t immediately turn out to be a problem. “We were told that we could also participate with someone else’s house.” The Dutch influencer ultimately did not accept the offer. “I liked the concept, but we just didn’t fit into the program. It was really strange.”

Not a nice experience

The Dutch juice channel @juicechannel__, which has around 323,000 followers, has also picked up Ipek’s story. “We have shared before that almost everything about that program is fake,” they now say on their Instagram Stories. A statement that is confirmed by several followers of the channel. For example, someone reports that a rich family once did not want to sleep in the house of the ‘poor’ family. Someone else says that the rich pay nothing at all. “The rich pay nothing, that’s what the program does. They also asked us and we could have just gone home between recordings.”

Also striking: the recordings would not last a week, but three days. “They have to change clothes twice a day so it looks like it takes one week. Arrival and departure are also often filmed on the same day.” According to juicechannel__, the poor family is really poor. “So it is a nice experience for them.” Although not everyone appears to agree with this. Meanwhile, one of the ‘poor’ families also responded to the juice channel’s Instagram Stories. “It was not a nice experience,” they say. “We were not even allowed to choose what we could do with the money. The production bought the food. We also went shopping with an ‘acquaintance’. He picked out my clothes. I felt not comfortable for me, but had to wear it.”

To conclude, juicechannel__ reports that they have received more than 120 messages from people who have been approached to participate in the program. “They all confirm that it doesn’t matter for production whether you are ‘rich’ or not. There is always a solution to it.”
