They are popping up everywhere again this summer, faster than virus variants: the flea markets. Wzc Sint-Pieter organized one on Sunday, but hadn’t counted on the one at the Hijfte fair. “We didn’t know about it, otherwise we would have chosen another day. Anyway, people come out for a nice time,” said the staff of the residential care center.

It is impossible to enumerate what can be found at a flea market. Because just browsing around is the best part of such a day. There were ‘speciallekes’: such as the Greek vase that Patrick Hebbelinck from Dorp-Oost wanted to put in the spotlight with us. A 24-carat gold vase (you), not completely natural, but the edges are.

He proudly showed us the object from his mother’s household effects. The jewel once cost more than 4000 Belgian francs, which we can still see on the yellowed label at the bottom. So 100 euros, and yesterday she could be yours for 50 euros. “Otherwise she will stay with me for another 20 years,” says Patrick. By the way, his girlfriend was at the other flea market in Hijfte.

Often frequented at the flea market in the parking lot: books, toys and lots of clothes. Summer heat or not, there were even jackets (with matching handbag)

fit as in a real fashion show. And for those who couldn’t get out of their feet anymore, there were also crutches to tap on the head. ghl
