On the E17, in the direction of Ghent and near the football stadium, the back of a truck was completely burned out on Friday morning. Initially, two lanes were blocked: the right lane was only reopened at noon.

Just after seven o’clock on Friday morning, the federal police and the fire brigade received a report of a burning truck on the E17, in the direction of Ghent. The back of the colossus is completely burned out.

“Smoke development was noticed at the rear, but when we arrived on site the fire was already well developed,” says fire brigade spokesperson Björn Bryon. “The fire has now been extinguished. We were still extinguishing the fire around 8 o’clock.”

The exact cause requires further investigation. The truck was loaded with rolls of metal. No injuries were reported in the incident. Traffic was severely disrupted by the fire. The center and right lanes were blocked. The center lane was soon reopened, but it took until around 12 noon before the right lane was cleared again.
