Regional Products Flemish Brabant vzw has renewed the certificate for the ‘Recognized Flemish Brabant Regional Product’. With this label, regional producers can distinguish themselves from the many other local products. Currently, 280 products from 99 regional producers are recognized.
The label of ‘Recognized Flemish Brabant Regional Product’ is a promotional label that a producer can obtain on his own request. The label allows him to distinguish himself within the range of regional products. It ensures a clear division between farm products, local products and recognized Flemish Brabant regional products.
“To receive the label ‘Recognized Flemish Brabant Regional Product’, the product must meet a number of criteria. The product must have a clear link with the region, be made on site by the producer and be produced for at least 5 years or according to an old recipe,” says Tom Dehaene, representative for regional products.
Regional products that want to qualify for the label must have a clear link with the region.
“The producers apply for the label themselves. This is a promotional label, and therefore not a quality label. We are very proud to announce that we already have 99 producers who have received the label for 280 products,” says Paul Vleminckx, chairman of the non-profit organization Streekproducten Vlaams-Brabant.
The objective of this regional label is to profile and market regional products to consumers. Regional products Flemish Brabant wants to make products from their own region recognizable to consumers by means of the Regional Recognition Label for Flemish Brabant regional products. In this way, consumers are made aware when purchasing a regional product and are encouraged to buy more products from their own region.
In addition, the label wants to stimulate the bond between product and region and strive to increase sales of regional products through clear recognition and a clear story. The label is also a recognition of the production method of the producer. The label supports the producer in his business operations and creates credible added value. In this way, Regional Products Flemish Brabant supports the local economy and the product diversity specific to the region.
