Wind energy? “We did a good job together”
Petra De Sutter (Green) and Gwendolyn Rutten (Open VLD) have just spent a weekend together “for a Woestijnvis program”. They tell this themselves in Humo. “I discovered that Petra is a fantastic cook and that we share many interests, from soup recipes to mistresses of kings,” says Rutten about De Sutter.
They are less unanimous about the European nature restoration law. “Why is it that, with the elections in sight, all parties are encouraging each other to ditch environmental and climate policy?” De Sutter wonders. “If you translate those European laws into Flemish rules, you can no longer do anything here. We live with many people on a small piece of land, where we do many things at the same time,” Rutten ripostes. “In addition to the Green Deal, an Industrial Deal is also needed. Our industry is committed to the climate objectives, but faces stiff competition from America and China.”
“Fortunately Tinne Van der Straeten (green Minister of Energy, ed.) offshore wind energy has tripled, thanks to the green-blue axis,” De Sutter says later in the interview. “Yes, we did a good job together,” says Rutten.
