Literary Café Venray organizes the annual writing competition Riddle Rose. In the prose category this year, a second prize was awarded to Horstenaar Jan Duijf.

The Literary Café received a total of 83 entries in the prose and poetry categories. The winners chosen by the three juries were announced on Sunday April 21 at the Asteria Hotel in Venray. In the prose category, the professional jury declared Wendy Sempels from Rotselaer (Flanders) the winner with ‘Unconditional’. The second prize went to Jan Duijf with ‘De bergweide’. The third prize went to Hub Kockelkorn from Amersfoort with ‘In dry earth’.

The professional poetry jury awarded the first prize to Ton Adriaens from Weert with ‘Let me in’. The second and third prizes went to Stan Mooij from Son en Breugel with ‘The witnesses’ and Paul de Bruyne from Antwerp with ‘Siegement’ respectively.

Finally, the public jury chose Sueela Berendsen from ‘s-Heerenberg with her poem ‘Loss’ as the winner of the Rooje Roos Prize 2023.
