Today saxophonist Ileana Termini was a guest in Vrij Spel. With two singers as parents, she was constantly surrounded by music as a child and regularly went to concerts. She therefore played many different instruments and was ultimately attracted most to the wind instruments. Under slight pressure from her parents and with fresh adolescent reluctance, Ileana chose the saxophone, but, against her expectations, fell head over heels in love with the instrument. She has now started her master’s degree at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, she is being taught by her great idol Arno Bornkamp and a few weeks ago she made her debut as a soloist with the symphony orchestra of the conservatory. She has also had great success with her own Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet and has recently started playing as a duo together with pianist Youngjae Kim.

On the occasion of King’s Day, everyone in the studio was in an orange atmosphere and Ileana, together with Youngjae, edited the Wilhelmus for Free Play. They took the theme and made different variations on it. It resulted in a fantastic one Free game in which it Wilhelmus suddenly sounds very summery and you can’t resist dancing along with it.
