The E313 from Hasselt towards Antwerp became completely blocked on Friday afternoon near Geel due to an accident.
On Friday afternoon there was a collision between a mobile home and a truck on the E313 near Geel. The damage is extensive and two occupants of the mobile home were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One of them is in mortal danger.
The Traffic Center asks people to avoid the area, because the blockage already caused a 9 kilometer long traffic jam around 12:30 p.m. Waiting times increased to more than an hour. Drivers have to leave the highway in Geel-Oost to drive back on it in Geel-West, but that is very difficult.
For longer distances from Hasselt to Antwerp and Ghent, a detour via Brussels is the best alternative, says the Traffic Center. In the Netherlands, where the school holidays are just starting, it is recommended to drive from the Maastricht region via Eindhoven and the E34 to Antwerp.
