Tesla has long proven that electric cars are excessively fast on the drag strip with its Model S Plaid. But how does it hold up against the even stronger Lucid Air Sapphire? Time for an EV drag race.

The super sedan designed by Elon Musk is seen as the final boss of the traffic light sprint. With more than 1,020 hp, the electric car covers the quarter mile in just 9.23 seconds, according to the brand itself. The lavish Lucid Air Sapphire boosts the power to no less than 1,251 hp. How does that translate to the famous quarter mile?

Drag Race: Lucid Air Sapphire vs. Tesla Model S Plaid

The American YouTube channel DragTimes rolls both electric cars onto the sticky asphalt to find out which of the two can call itself the supreme EV. After two false starts, a flawless drag race follows in which the Lucid Air Sapphire is dominant. You can see images of the sprint competition below.

It is not known what the battery percentage is. It is clear that the Tesla Model S Plaid will lose out. The results receipt shows that the Tesla crossed the line in 9.288 seconds, while the Lucid Air Sapphire needed only 8.965 seconds for the same distance.

Lucid Air Sapphire feels faster than Tesla Model S Plaid

The Lucid made a lot of gains, especially at the start. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) took just 1.92 seconds, compared to 2.23 seconds in the Tesla. In an earlier video, the guys from DragTimes even managed to clock the Lucid at 1.77 seconds. Please note that this includes the one foot rollout. In addition, the Lucid – which generates no less than 1.5 G when accelerating – feels considerably faster, the YouTuber indicates.

Now that the power of electric cars regularly exceeds the magical 1000 hp limit, they manage to breathe down the neck of a circuit king such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, even on a winding track. This became apparent during the annual Autovisie Supertest in which the Tesla Model S Plaid participated.
