About the episode

The TikTok ban is a fact! At least, according to the law signed by American President Biden. But how is TikTok going to challenge this in court, and how successful is that attempt? It promises to be a tough fight, with the Chinese app likely to target the First Amendment of the Constitution: the ‘Freedom of Speech’. Joe van Burik and Ben van der Burg discuss this in this episode of BNR Digitaal.

Because the Americans make no bones about it. TikTok is a threat to the National Security. The question then remains: what are the options for TikTok? Can TikTok somehow stay in the hands of ByteDance and improve its life in the US? And who is actually interested in such a takeover?

We ask America expert Raymond Mens and tech lawyer Lisette Meij from Lime Legal.

Open source in danger?
The crypto world reacted with shock last week to an intervention by the US Department of Justice. Bitcoin wallet Samourai was violently taken down and its developers were arrested. What is extra striking is that Samourai’s services were all open source. An area that previously remained out of reach. Now that the law enforcement’s stance seems to be turning, privacy activists and the open-source community are concerned.

You can hear how that works from an independent Bitcoin developer Sjors Provoost.
