As young experts, the students of Commanderij College Gemert came up with the best plan for a better future. They wanted to replace old bricks with recycled plant bricks. Good for insulation, it retains rainwater and promotes biodiversity. The jury thought their idea was incredibly original and very colorful: “They created the presentation as a team with incredibly beautiful set pieces and all kinds of creative shapes. They respond to trends and bring biodiversity and living together. It is practical and doable.” The winners will travel to Vlieland.

Artcadia painting

All winners also received a unique Artcadia painting specially designed by students from the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam. With the idea Waterlanden, in which 4 islands together serve for houses, parks, industry and a shopping center, Kaj Munk college won the 2nd prize. This is a vlogging workshop from Canon Netherlands. The 3rd prize, a Next Nature package, went to Johannes Fontanus College Barneveld with a house made of recycled material that also generates its own energy.

Enthusiasm and energy

Head jury member, Cécile Cluitmans: “The enthusiasm and energy in it is great to see among students and teachers. The ideas and elaborations come from the students themselves. At such a young age, they are already concerned with social issues and current developments. You can see that their heart and brain are in the right place. That’s why we do it.”

Solution for contemporary issues

Each group of second-year HAVO/VWO students shared their own solution for contemporary issues in the field of mobility, buildings, water, environment and space within 10 minutes in the Evoluon. With detailed models, acted scenes and flashy videos, all students surprised the jury with their sustainable ideas and technical formulas. Consulting and engineering organization Arcadis, Canon Netherlands, Next Nature and the Katalys foundation are organizing the largest competition for second-class HAVO/VWO students to make them enthusiastic about technology and aware of their living environment. Due to the cross-disciplinary element, this competition has been a great success for more than 15 years. This edition Jard Struik presented the programme. The jury consisted of director Arcadis Netherlands Cécile Cluitmans, director Canon Netherlands Michael Kusters, TV maker and actress Beryl van Praag and Fontys Hogeschool lecturer Mark de Graaf.
