GARDEN A kilo of gold was taken during the brutal theft on Tuesday, February 13, at the Kevelam coin shop on the Speulderweg in Garderen. The police have now announced this in an investigation report. The two perpetrators left in a dark-colored Ford Puma with damaged windows. The owner of the coin shop had hit it with a baseball bat.

“The affected coin and gold dealer has an office at home. At the beginning of February he had a customer who was very interested in buying gold, but who ultimately only bought a gold tenner. This may have been a preliminary reconnaissance,” the police reported.

MONEY BOX A week later, on Tuesday morning, February 13, two customers visited the business by appointment. “They took a cash box out of a bag and said they would like to buy gold. The trader showed them 150 grams of gold. The pair paid on the spot with cash from the cash box. They asked if there was any more gold in stock and said they had enough money with them.”

EXCHANGE “The trader then showed a kilo of gold and made it clear that this could not be paid for in cash. One of the customers took the gold and put it in the cash box, which then disappeared under the table in the bag. When the trader asked for the gold back, they put another box on the table. However, this turned out not to be the box with the gold, but a different box; it was switched under the table.”

BASEBALL BAT “The duo ran off and the victim understood that he was being robbed, grabbed a baseball bat and chased them,” police continue. “The two got into the Ford Puma. The dealer hit the windshield and driver’s side window with the baseball bat in an attempt to stop the suspects. But they managed to escape and drove towards the A1 highway.”

GERMAN ACCENT According to police, one suspect had long blonde hair, possibly a wig. This person is about 50 years old, about 1.80 meters tall, has a fairly stocky build and a noticeably low voice. “It is unclear whether this person was a man or a woman. The second suspect is a man aged 60 to 65. He is quite small and chubby and speaks Dutch with a German accent.”

The police ask people who think they recognize one or both thieves based on the description or in combination with the Ford Puma to contact them. Even if people saw the dark-colored Ford Puma driving with damaged windows on or after Tuesday, February 13. This also applies to, for example, the owner of a body shop who replaced the windows of a dark Ford Puma and to people who saw gold being offered for sale after February 13.

BLACK PEUGEOT “A week before the theft, the trader received a customer who may have been involved in the plot,” the police continue. “This may have been a preliminary exploration. The man was in his late 20s and drove a black Peugeot 208. Do you have a suspicion who this could have been? Are you this person and have you nothing to do with the theft? Please contact us.”
