Children’s King’s Day Wormerveer is urgently looking for volunteers: “Otherwise no cotton candy”

For the sixth year in a row, a group of seven people have been working for months to organize Children’s King’s Day. The sponsors have been secured and fifty volunteers are already in the starting blocks, but that is not enough to implement everything.

Ten more volunteers are needed to staff the last stalls and activities. Nico Bolhoeve is the chairman and explains the situation: “It is difficult to get a volunteer for one day. It is even more difficult this year because of the school holidays.”

The activities, as well as food and drinks, are free for children up to the age of twelve during Children’s King’s Day. According to Bolhoeve, this is important for parents with a small budget, for example. “For example, I had a mother at the checkout with three children who started crying that the children could have poffertjes.”

Last year the organization already proposed one to make an exchange with other activities where volunteers are desperately needed. The organizers have been lobbying for volunteers for weeks. “We still needed 25 three weeks ago.” According to Bolhoeve, that was a serious problem. “If this number continued, we would have to pull the plug.”

What can continue?

To their great relief, this is not necessary, but the question is whether they can do everything they had in mind. “The games remain standing,” says Bolhoeve resolutely. According to the chairman, the organization tends to skimp on the cotton candy or popcorn stall. “But preferably not, of course.”

He hopes that people will decide at the last minute to help during Children’s King’s Day from 9:45 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m. “We also welcome volunteers who can help for half a day,” the organization emphasizes. To register advance is desirable. “We couldn’t do it without the efforts of volunteers to make this day unforgettable for the children.”
