After one of the most eventful MLB offseasons in recent memory, Opening Day is finally here. Twenty-six teams are in action today, after the Mets, Braves, Phillies and Brewers were rained out, their openers postponed until Friday.
The free agent carousel spun for much of the winter, but it eventually slowed down, and Cody Bellinger ended up back with the Chicago Cubs, Blake Snell landed with the San Francisco Giants, and Jordan Montgomery signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Now we get to see how these teams operate with their new additions – and for those who lost players, without their former stars. Speaking of which, the Shohei Ohtani-less Los Angeles Angels and the Corbin Burnes-led Baltimore Orioles start the action at 3:05 pm ET, followed by eight games at 4:10 pm, the Chicago Cubs and defending champion Texas Rangers at 7 :35 pm, and two nightcap games at 10:07 pm
After playing in Korea last week, Ohtani and the Dodgers make their return to North America in a 4:10 pm game at Dodger Stadium, the first contest since the revelations of Ohtani’s involvement in a betting scandal centered around his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.
