History repeats itself. Once again, Henrik Fisker’s dream – having a successful car brand – seems to be falling apart. There have been reports for some time that the EV brand is in dire straits and this is now confirmed by extreme discounts on the Fisker Ocean.
Earlier this month it was reported that Fisker is temporarily halting production. The company is eagerly looking for a capital injection and sat down with a major player in the automotive world. It was whispered in the corridors that it was Nissan. It does not matter who exactly it was, because the party in question appears to have dropped out.
Extreme discount on the Fisker Ocean
In a desperate move, the EV brand is now offering huge discounts on the Fisker Ocean of the 2023 model year in the United States. The entry-level model drops from $39,000 (about 36,000 euros) to $25,000. That amounts to 23,100 euros. That is even cheaper than the Citroën ë-C3.
Other versions also drop considerably in price. The top model previously retailed for $61,500 (56,800 euros) in the showroom, but can now be sold for $37,500 (34,600 euros). Moreover, according to the brand, some Fisker Ocean models are also loaded with many expensive options.
Is this dirt-cheap EV worth buying?
It is not yet known whether the Dutch market will also receive such a discount promotion. The question, however, is whether you should want to buy a car from a manufacturer that is already showing convulsions. If the brand goes under, it can become difficult to obtain updates or spare parts.
You are therefore taking a considerable risk by buying the now dirt-cheap Fisker Ocean. At the same time the statement exists ‘high risk, high reward’ not for nothing. If you take the gamble and Fisker manages to survive this difficult period, then you (as an American) have bought a lot of EV for your money.
