Donald Trump was sentenced to a fine of $350 million last month in a fraud case. The former president had for years artificially exaggerated the value of his assets and thus systematically obtained more favorable loans to expand his real estate empire. Trump will appeal against that verdict, but in order to start the procedure he must first post a bond of 454 million dollars (419 million euros). He had to pay that amount, the fine plus interest, by today at the latest, or the judge could confiscate his property.

Because Trump’s wealth is mainly in real estate, the ex-president had complained that he would have to sell his properties to put down the money. However, the New York court has now lowered the bail to $175 million. Trump now has ten days to transfer the bail. Once that has happened, the initial amount of 454 million will no longer be collected.

The decision is therefore an important victory for Trump. The Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential elections can now continue his appeal against the conviction without the risk of his assets being seized, Bloomberg news agency clarifies.

The fraud case is not the only lawsuit that Trump has to worry about. For example, there is still a criminal case underway for paying hush money to porn actress Stormy Daniels. That process will start on April 15, it was decided today. The jury will be composed on that day.
