Western Digital has launched a new 8TB desktop SSD that promises high speed, reliability and large storage space.

Western Digital expands its SanDisk portfolio with the 8TB SanDisk Desk Drive, designed for desktop use and also available in 4TB. The external desktop SSD promises speed, reliability and large storage space, which the company says it plans to double to 16TB next year. The 4TB and 8TB SanDisk Desk Drive are now available at a target price of 423.99 euros and 779.99 euros respectively.

Functionalities

The new SanDisk Desk Drive is available in 4TB and 8TB capacities for storing photo and video collections, CAD or 3D files, large AI-generated files, music libraries and more. It provides fast access to content with read speeds of up to 1000 MB/s, which is up to four times faster than a desktop HDD.

Furthermore, the backups are made using Apple Time Machine or automatically with the included downloadable Acronis True Image for Western Digital backup software. The Desk Drive works natively with Windows or macOS with exFAT formatting.

High capacity

“As digital content creation continues to rise, there is an increasing need for powerful, high-capacity storage solutions to manage and preserve it. By expanding our SSD portfolio, we are offering users who generate massive amounts of content flexible, high-capacity storage solutions to do more faster,” said Susan Park, Vice President, Consumer Solutions, Western Digital.

The company is already looking ahead and expects to “double the capacity of the SanDisk Desk Drive from 8TB to 16TB on a single desktop SSD next year,” Park said. The 4TB SanDisk Desk Drive (target price $423.99) and 8TB SanDisk Desk Drive (target price $779.99) are available now from the Western Digital Store and from authorized SanDisk retailers, e-tailers and distributors.
