With the breakthroughs of bands like Black Midi and Squid, it was no surprise that many new bands would ride on the hype. Many tried, but not as many did so with quality and success as a result. Brand new newcomer to the scene Fold Papers, led by Chell Osuntade, knows what it is doing. The man is originally from Nigeria, but after a stopover in Michigan he suddenly entered the alternative music scene of Winnipeg. After gaining some name and fame in a few small projects, he is today with his own band.

“Nothing To Report” is only the second love child of the foursome after “Medical Jargon”, but it is certainly already there. The band’s message is immediately clear, as evidenced by the rattling guitar work. Osuntade tries not to color within the lines too much and emphasizes this with a fairly tight and thundering rhythm, while the bass and guitar lines dance hyperkinetically to the pattern of the drums. Just enough chaos to highlight the fairly cynical comments of the frontman himself. It is not yet groundbreaking music, but it will be worth keeping an eye on Fold Papers in the coming years.
