Users report that they cannot connect to a VPN after installing the April 2024 Security Update (KB5036893) or the April 2024 Non-Security Preview Update on their Windows devices.

Affected devices:

The issue affects devices running the following Windows versions:

  • Windows 11, version 23H2
  • Windows 11, version 22H2
  • Windows 11, version 21H2
  • Windows 10, version 22H2
  • Windows 10, version 21H2
  • Windows Server 2022
  • Windows Server 2019
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2008

What to do:

Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. In the meantime, there are two possible solutions:

1. Uninstall the update:

  • Open Institutions > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates.
  • Find and select the update KB5036893 or the April 2024 non-security preview update.
  • click on To delete.

2. Use a different VPN client:

Some users report that they can work around the problem by using a different VPN client.
