Google seems to be planning to add a new feature in Android 15 that allows you to force all your applications to switch to dark mode via your settings. That function would also work for apps that do not have a built-in dark mode.

The most recent version of Android currently on smartphones is Android 14. In the meantime, work is of course underway on Android 15 and this new update to the well-known operating system could well have a useful new function. The website Android Authority discovered that work is being done on a “make all apps dark“-function.

Dark mode

Some people don’t want to know anything about it, but many others cannot do without dark mode. Many applications, such as Instagram, Google and Facebook, have integrated dark mode for some time. For others this is not (yet) the case, but there may be a solution for this soon.

Android Authority discovered that a beta update of Android 14 contains a hidden function to darken all applications. That option would be the improved version of the existing similar feature that has been around since Android 10. The current feature can be disabled by specific applications. This is, for example, the case with Fitbit’s app, which does not exist in dark mode.

When?

It is not yet clear whether and when this new function will actually be available on Android. The feature is not yet available in the already available beta version of Android 15. So we will probably have to wait until the next update. It will be released next month.
