Parent company Warner Bros. Discovery had previously announced the arrival of HBO Max in our country. We just had to wait for a specific date. Until now. The streaming service will launch in Belgium on July 1. Just before a busy summer of sports, including the European Football Championship and the Olympic Games.

That timing is no coincidence. Sports appears to be one of the spearheads of the service. For example, HBO Max is committed to being the only place where you can watch everything from the Olympic Games in Paris live. The three major cycling rounds, the tennis Grand Slam tournaments, the cycling classics and the Golf PGA Tour will also be shown on HBO Max.

But the lion’s share of the offering naturally consists of the high-quality fiction series that HBO is synonymous with. This way you can watch on the new streaming service House of the Dragon (season 2), The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Euphoria and True Detective: Night Country. The offer also includes films from the Warner Bros library such as Wonka, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and the complete Harry Potterseries.

Streamz subscribers

The arrival of HBO Max is especially bad news for Streamz, where HBO series are disappearing from the offer. Recent titles, released this year, will remain available for a number of months. And also new series that will be released between now and June 30th – such as House of the Dragon – can still be seen on Streamz. Everything that rolls off the production line at HBO after July 1 will go directly to HBO Max.

At Streamz they are convinced that their offer, even without the HBO content, is strong enough to convince customers. For example, it is pointed out that Streamz subscribers mainly watch local series. Nine of the ten most viewed series last year were Flemish. In addition, Streamz continues to offer international top series through partnerships with Paramount, Sony, Universal, Lionsgate and Amazon Prime, among others. Titles like The Spiderwick Chroniclesthe third season of Mayor of Kingstown and older classics like The Handmaid’s Tale and Fargo will appear on Streamz this year.

The new service is launched with a number of subscription formulas. The cheapest costs 5.99 euros per month, but then you have to add advertising. For a basic subscription without advertising you pay 9.99 euros, the premium variant costs 12.99 euros. For an extra sports package you pay another 5 euros per month. This summer’s Olympic Games are included in all subscription options.
