A new Switch feature in Google Meet lets you switch between your smartphone and laptop while a meeting is in progress, without having to leave the call.
Google Meet makes it easier to switch devices during meetings. It is introducing a new Switch feature for this purpose. Do you receive a call while on the road? You can then answer the call on your smartphone and continue it on your laptop, without having to go out and back into the call. In the opposite direction, you can also easily switch from your laptop to your smartphone if you want to leave your desk during the call to get a coffee.
Change in an instant
The change function is very simple. During an active call, click open the invitation link on the other device. A button will appear in the preview window to switch to the second device. This closes the call on the first device and opens it on the second device, before your conversation partners have even blinked. This means you no longer have to leave the call and dial back in on another device.
Google is rolling out the feature to all Meet users. Everyone should have received the job by May 9. The feature is available to both paying Workspace customers and users with a personal account.
Google has been creative in recent months in coming up with new features for its meeting platform. For example, it introduced an ‘on-the-go mode’ for meetings on the go and literally lets you raise your hand to ask to speak. Google Meet also finally increased the image quality to 1080p. Despite these novelties, Google Meet plays on the margins: eight out of ten Belgian IT professionals use Microsoft Teams as their main video meeting platform.
