‘New Assassin’s Creed leaves open world behind’

--

Ubisoft has a lot of Assassin’s Creed in development. Codename Red, for example, will probably be released this year. Now details have also been leaked about Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

Many more recent Assassin’s Creed titles are completely open world, something that is not to everyone’s liking, but has been successful. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was a bit more traditional, but Codename Red will probably be open world again. The next game is reportedly going back on the classic tour.

Insider Gaming reports this based on new information from anonymous sources. Assassin’s Creed Hexe is more linear, with some open world-like elements, making it quite similar to the previous games in the series. However, the game is still early in development: it is not expected until 2026.

Insider Gaming has also seen images. These are not shared further, but show the setting and some skills of the protagonist. The main character is (temporarily) called Elsa and is hunted by German soldiers in the sixteenth century.

Elsa is able to take over a cat, which is then controlled by the player. As a cat you can distract enemies, which is done in the images by knocking over a bottle. Elsa is also said to have even more supernatural abilities.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe takes inspiration from old DLC

It also looks like Hexe is taking inspiration from DLC for a previous game, namely Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Jack the Ripper expansion. There was a Fear system there and something similar also occurs in Hexe. That would also fit well with a setting in which witch persecution is central.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is, as mentioned, expected in 2026. The game will be part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity. That brings together all future games in the franchise. It is not yet clear exactly how this will work, but Codename Red is the first game that can be played via Infinity.
