The thunderstorm that was predicted this evening in Antwerp and Limburg has caused flooding in various places in Limburg. This time the focus was in South Limburg.

The South Limburg fire brigade zone bore the brunt of the fire, with around 30 interventions spread across the entire zone. “Half of this is concentrated in Hasselt and Diepenbeek,” says spokeswoman Gretel Kerkhofs. “This mainly concerns flooded cellars and streets.”

A house was hit by a lightning strike in the Oude Heistraat in Kuringen. It partially destroyed the chimney and a hole was also apparently punched in the roof. The fire brigade sent a team to the scene to close the hole.

There were also about five calls from Herk-de-Stad, three from Sint-Truiden, three from Tessenderlo and one from Tongeren.

Fire zone North Limburg received one call, for a house in Leopoldsburg where water was coming in. No emergency weather interventions were registered in the East Limburg fire zone.
