What we know about the new Chromecast with Google TV (4K)

It seems like it is finally coming: a new Chromecast with Google TV. We already know a thing or two about the media player, so we’ve listed the information for you.

New Chromecast on the way: we know this

The Chromecast with Google TV is one of the nicest gadgets that Google has released in recent years. But, especially the 4K version has been around for a while. Google introduced the Chromecast about four years ago, so it’s time for an upgrade. It seems that this will finally happen soon, according to rumors.

So it’s time to list what we already know about the new Chromecast with Google TV. The media player will probably get a number of useful improvements, which we are secretly looking forward to. Read on!

1. New remote control

It is expected that you will soon be able to operate the new Chromecast with a new remote control. A few months ago an image (see below) of the improved remote surfaced. The new remote control appears to be slightly longer and has more buttons. Particularly interesting is the ‘star’ button at the bottom right.

You could link this button to an app, so you can start a streaming service with a single press. Consider, for example, Videoland or HBO Max. The current Chromecast remote control has standard buttons to open YouTube and Netflix, so this probably works the same way.

2. Faster hardware

What less is known about, but what we do hope, is that the new Chromecast with Google TV will have faster hardware. That is secretly necessary, because the Chromecast is now quite old and not the fastest media player.

Especially if you quickly switch between apps or return to the home screen, the HDMI dongle has difficulty keeping up with you. It will then take a few seconds before the interface is completely loaded again. A new chip is faster, but also more energy efficient and therefore ready for the future.

3. Same price

We expect Google to make the new Chromecast neither more expensive nor cheaper. This means that the media player has a recommended retail price of 69 euros. Not necessarily very cheap, but a Chromecast can last a long time and they are regularly on sale.

If you still think it is an expensive joke, there is a more affordable alternative available with the Chromecast with Google TV (HD). This Chromecast is a few bucks cheaper (39 euros), but also less extensive. It streams films and series in full HD quality and can therefore not handle 4K images. Keep this in mind if you have a large television and want to take advantage of the higher resolution.

4. Reveal may be soon

It is not clear when the Chromecast with Google TV will appear, but we dare to take a guess. Google I/O 2024 will take place soon, on May 14. During this event, Google shows the latest software developments, but the company is also increasingly unveiling hardware. It is therefore possible that the search giant will then show its latest media player. So wait and see!

If you don’t want to wait and already need a Chromecast, you can of course just get the current media player. However, it may be smart to wait a little longer to ensure that you have the latest (and therefore best) version.
