WhatsApp is introducing support for passkeys on the iOS app, allowing iPhone users to log in with Face ID or Touch ID.

WhatsApp is now introducing passkey support in the iOS version of the app. This allows users to log in to their iPhone with Face ID or Touch ID, or with their phone code. While users could previously log in using these methods, security is now handled by Apple’s password manager or another one of their choice. This expansion comes just months after the same feature came to Android users. That’s what makes the company https://twitter.com/WhatsApp/status/1783169135221846430.

Passkeys are a more secure form of authentication that eliminates the need for passwords and SMS two-factor authentication. In addition, the use of passkeys makes it possible to log in without a network connection, because the authentication key is stored on the phone. Users can find the new feature under Settings > Account > Passkeys. It may take some time before it is available to all iOS users.

Unfortunately, this function does not work on Mac and Windows. Users will still need to scan a QR code from the “Linked devices” menu in the smartphone app to log into WhatsApp on other devices. This is because Mac, Windows, and Web cannot function as primary devices for an account.
