Publisher Private Division and developer Wētā Workshop have announced a new game in the Lord of the Rings franchise called Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game. The announcement was made with the reveal trailer below.

This is not a game that focuses on combat or the battle to defeat the army of the evil Sauron. In Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game you enjoy a leisurely life as a Hobbit in the Shire in a time of peace. The game is colorful as the Shire once was. As a Hobbit you have to fish, garden, cook, shop for groceries, collect items, form friendships, decorate your home and participate in local events such as a fireworks festival. You can personalize the Hobbit you play at the start of the game.

“We’re eager to give players the opportunity to live out their fantasies and live their own humble hobbit lives in the Shire,” said Kelly Tyson, Head of Product at Wētā Workshop. “Tales of the Shire offers fans a new dimension to experience Middle-earth, with enough fun gameplay and hobbit elements to capture the hearts of newcomers.”

“The team at Wētā Workshop is creating a brilliant representation of JRR Tolkien’s beloved work that allows players to live out their own hobbit experience in Middle-earth,” said Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer, Take-Two Interactive and Director of Private Division . “Players have been craving a warm and inviting The Lord of the Rings game for years, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering with Tales of the Shire.”

Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is scheduled to launch in 2024 for Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
