A man was seriously injured in a stabbing in Antwerp’s Seefhoek on Saturday evening. The victim was found in critical condition in the Lange Scholiersstraat, but is no longer in danger of life. The police are looking for the perpetrator.

The facts date from 7 p.m. The circumstances surrounding the stabbing are not yet clear. “I can confirm that a man with stab wounds was found in the Lange Scholiersstraat shortly before 7 p.m.,” says police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns. “The medical services are taking care of the seriously injured victim.”

The man was briefly in danger of dying, but this had passed around 9 p.m. “We started the investigation on the spot,” says Bruyns. “A perimeter has been set up and given the nature of the facts, the forensic lab will also come to the scene for trace evidence. We have no information to share about the perpetrator. The police track him or her down.

The police are also currently investigating a telephone shop in Dambruggestraat. A skirmish took place there earlier in the evening between a number of Afghans. It cannot be ruled out that the incident is related to the facts in Lange Scholierstraat.
