Speaker manufacturer Sonos, specialized in multi-room audio, will launch what it says is a radically updated app on May 7. The most important change is that the user’s favorite streaming services – Sonos supports more than a hundred – are conveniently bundled on one customizable home screen.

From now on, the same home screen also offers access to the controls of the entire Sonos system with one swipe up. In the past, you had to ‘jump’ from tab to tab, which often left much to be desired. Another improvement is that you can now search every music library simultaneously by artist, song, podcast, etc. Until now, this was not an overarching process, and the search function was always limited to the selected streaming service or music source. The new app also makes it easier to find what you have recently played.

Desktop app moves to the web

Sonos will also launch a web app with the same capabilities on May 7 (see the photo above this article). It seems that this will completely replace the classic desktop applications for Windows and macOS, although we have not yet received confirmation from Sonos.

The updated app supports all existing Sonos S2 products, and will be available for free via a software update next month.
