Maarten Breckx, who replaced a sick Aster Nzeyimana as presenter, had already enjoyed Vanaken. “It was how he kept track of the ball, especially in the final phase, and you could always pass it to him vintage Vanaken. His craft stood out, especially towards the end,” says Maarten. Jarno Bertho, sports journalist from VTM NIEUWS, fully agrees. “Look, I’m 33 years old and I haven’t watched as much football as you (referring to his fellow guests and our football analysts Marc Degryse and Frank Boeckx, ed.), but someone who has almost consistently achieved such a high level for ten years, that seems unique to me. It should be added: Vanaken of course never took that step higher.”

Degryse, who has a lot more football experience, can only confirm that. “Sometimes we may even regard it as normal too much, which Hans shows again and again. Although of course he has won the Golden Shoe twice.” Will he be able to add a third if Club plays champions? Boeckx: “Then it will be the same scenario as last year, with Puertas as the only challenger.”

Then Puertas must stay in Belgium. According to rumors, Club Brugge is interested, Maarten knows. “Then they might not give each other the ball next season to win that shoe,” Boeckx jokes.
