Club Brugge has to compete again in Europe on Thursday evening. Blauw-Zwart looks into the eyes of the Italian ACF Fiorentina in the semi-finals of the Conference League and wants to take the first step towards the final. Is Hugo Broos also secretly watching?

Broos was already linked to Club Brugge. He would be in the picture as the new technical director, although he made it clear in March that there are no negotiations with the people of Bruges. Broos has now once again spoken out about Bruges’ interest.

Club Brugge did not contact Broos

“You know as much as I do,” Broos is quoted as saying La Dernière Heure. “My name has been mentioned. Just like Francky Dury and one or two Dutch people. I am one of the candidates. Have I been contacted? They have not said: ‘We are going to sit at the table, because we want you as technical director .’ But I know what the job entails. That’s what I was told off the record.”

Broos is currently still working for South Africa. “I am happy as coach of South Africa. I have a team that is doing well. I do not expect to change employers and I certainly will not coach elsewhere. I cannot yet say whether I will say yes to Club Brugge. But Nothing is happening yet.”

African Cup semi-finals

Broos therefore seems to remain on board with South Africa, where he still has a contract until mid-2026. He was previously a coach at the helm of Cameroon, RSC Anderlecht and Club Brugge, among others.

With South Africa he reached the semi-finals of the Africa Cup this year. He even won the tournament with Cameroon.
