Thibaut Courtois has traveled to Munich with the Real Madrid team for the Champions League match against the Rekordmeister. The goalkeeper is almost ready for the big job and one of his best friends, Erwin Lemmens, sees that he will soon be back between the posts.
Ancelotti often takes his entire core – injured or not – with him when he travels. But with Courtois the countdown is starting. “It’s great that he can go to Munich, that he gets the feeling that those matches are in his sights again. That is important for the mental aspect,” says Erwin Lemmens in HBvL.
Lemmens and Courtois worked together for years at the Red Devils and he knows him inside and out. “I think the match in Munich is too early for him to take action, but with Thibaut you never know.”
“If they ask him to play, I think he will immediately say yes, but a lot will depend on how he feels in training.”
At Marca they think that Andriy Lunin will play the two more matches against Bayern and Courtois will make his return against Cadiz in between.
“For Courtois, that match against Cadiz would be ideal to gain rhythm. But from the moment he is back on the field, I see no reason not to field him in the return match next week,” says Lemmens.
But Lunin will also be feeling the mood. “Lunin also knows who Courtois is. Of course, Courtois will be number one again when he is ready. Anything else would be very bad, after all, we are talking about the number one in the world. I think Real should be very grateful for what Thibaut has already achieved for the club.”
